Larry Murray was born on April 1, 1953. He is an American former professional baseball player. Larry played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball. He spent six seasons playing in the major leagues. He played for the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics.

Larry Murray's Start with the Yankees

Larry Murray was chosen by the New York Yankees in the 1971 baseball draft. He was picked in the third round right after high school. Larry first played in a major league game in 1974. He also played a few games for the Yankees in 1975 and 1976.

Playing for the Oakland Athletics

Larry Murray got a big chance to play more in 1977. The Oakland Athletics traded some players to get him. Larry was traded to the A's along with Dock Ellis and Marty Perez. This happened when the A's team was changing a lot.

Larry's Performance with the A's

Larry was given a chance to show what he could do with the Oakland A's. He played in 90 games that year. However, he only hit for a .179 batting average. He also had 9 runs batted in (RBIs) in 179 times at bat. But he was fast and managed to steal 12 bases.

Later Seasons with Oakland

Larry spent most of 1978 playing in the minor leagues. He got another chance with the A's in 1979. But his hitting did not improve much, as he batted only .186. His speed also seemed to slow down. He stole only 6 bases out of 12 tries. Soon, another player named Tony Armas took his spot. This was the end of Larry Murray's time in Major League Baseball.

Retirement from Baseball

Larry Murray played one more season of professional baseball. He played for the Ogden A's in 1980. After that season, he retired from playing baseball.
