Early Life and Family
Laura Love was born Laura Jones in Lincoln, Nebraska. She has a mixed background, including African American, Native American, and white heritage. Her father was Preston Love, a famous jazz musician. He played the saxophone with big bands like Count Basie's. Laura's mother, Wini, was also a singer in Preston's jazz band.
Laura has an older half-brother, Preston Love Jr.. He is known as a politician in Nebraska.
Music Career Journey
Laura Love started performing when she was just 16 years old. She sang for people at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Later, she moved to Seattle, Washington. In the 1980s, she was part of a rock band called Boom Boom G.I. She also played in an all-female band called Venus Envy.
Laura first released three albums on her own record label. Then, in 1995, a company called Putumayo World Music released a collection of her songs. In 2004, Laura Love wrote a book about her life. It was called You Ain't Got No Easter Clothes. She also released a music album with the same name.
