Laura Love is an American singer and songwriter. She also plays the bass guitar. Her music style is often called "Afro-Celtic." It also has influences from bluegrass music. Laura was born in 1960.

About Laura's Early Life

Laura Love was born Laura Jones in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1960. She has a mixed background. This includes African American, Native American, and white heritage. Laura had a tough childhood. Her mother faced challenges because she had a serious mental illness. Laura also spent time in foster homes.

Her father was Preston Love, a famous jazz musician. He played the saxophone with big bands like Count Basie. He also formed his own band in the 1950s. Laura's mother, Wini, used to sing in Preston's jazz band.

Laura's older half-brother is Preston Love Jr.. He is a politician in Nebraska.

Laura's Music Journey

Laura Love started performing when she was just 16 years old. She sang for prisoners at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Later, Laura moved to Seattle, Washington. There, she joined a rock group in the 1980s called Boom Boom G.I. She was also part of an all-female band named Venus Envy.

Laura released three albums on her own record label, Octoroon Biography. Then, in 1995, Putumayo released a collection of her songs. Her 2003 album, Welcome to Pagan Place, included a song called "I Want You Gone." This song shared her strong feelings about the president at the time, George W. Bush. In 2004, she wrote a book about her life. It was called You Ain't Got No Easter Clothes. She also released an album with the same name.
