Where is Laurelton?
Laurelton is located in Ocean County, which is in the central part of New Jersey. It's a quiet area that is close to the coast.
A Look Back: How Laurelton Got Its Start
The story of Laurelton began a long time ago, after the year 1808. At that time, there was an iron forge in the area. An iron forge was a place where metal was heated and shaped. This forge became the center of a new community.
This early community was first called Burrsville. It was named after one of the people who owned land there. Later, in the early 1900s, the name changed to Laurelton. This happened when a big farm called Laurelton Farms opened. This farm raised chickens and was run by a company called Park and Tilford.
Almost a New Name for Brick Township
In 1963, there was an idea to change the name of the entire Brick Township to Laurelton. This idea was put to a vote, which is called a referendum. However, the people voted against it, so the name of Brick Township stayed the same.
