Laurent Garnier, born on February 1, 1966, is a famous French DJ and music maker. He is also known by his DJ name, Choice. Laurent started playing music at parties in Manchester, England, in the late 1980s. Later, in the early 1990s, he began creating his own music and released many albums.

Early Music Journey
Laurent Garnier's journey into music began in 1984. He was working in London, England, and started DJing at a French club with a friend, DJ Nelson. After about a year and a half, he moved to Manchester, England, in 1986.
In Manchester, he discovered the exciting new music style called house music. This was a big moment for him. He quickly started DJing at famous clubs, including The Haçienda, which was a very popular place for dance music.
Becoming a DJ and Producer
In 1987, Laurent Garnier became a resident DJ at The Haçienda in Manchester. He met Mike Pickering, another DJ there. At this time, Chicago house and Detroit techno music were becoming very popular. Laurent started mixing these sounds under the name DJ Pedro.
After a short time in France for military service, he visited New York City. There, he met Frankie Knuckles, a legendary DJ often called the "Godfather of House Music."
In the early 1990s, Laurent Garnier focused his energy back in France. He started popular "Wake Up" parties at the Rex Club in Paris. He also played at other clubs and big rave parties. Slowly, he began to record his own music.
He released his first songs with the FNAC label. When that label closed, he decided to start his own record company. In 1994, he created F Communications with his friend Eric Morand. This label became very important for electronic music.

Laurent Garnier released his first album, Shot in the Dark, in 1995. Two years later, in 1997, his second album, 30, came out. This album included one of his most well-known songs, "Crispy Bacon."
In 2000, he released the album Unreasonable Behaviour. This album featured another one of his most famous tracks, "The Man with the Red Face." This song is still very popular in electronic music today.
Laurent Garnier continued to travel the world, playing music for huge crowds. He also kept making new albums, like The Cloud Making Machine in 2005 and Tales of a Kleptomaniac in 2009. He has released many singles and EPs (shorter music collections) throughout his career.
His music often mixes different styles of electronic music, making him a unique and respected artist.
