Lavori Publici FC (also known as "Lavori Pubblici FC" in Italian language) was a historic football team. It was based in Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia. This team played in the Somali football league for many years, from 1947 until 1990.

The Story of Lavori Publici FC

Lavori Publici FC started in the late 1940s. It was first called Genio Officina. The team was formed by football fans from the Italian community across Italian Somalia. They wanted to compete against another team, AC Mogadiscio. AC Mogadiscio was the team for Italians living only in Mogadishu.

Both teams played in Somalia's first amateur football championship. In 1952, the team officially joined the Somali first league championship. They changed their name to Lavori Publici FC/Genio. That same year, they won the league tournament!

Lavori Publici FC became very popular. Many local Somali people became big fans of the team. Because of this support, the team kept playing for a long time. It continued until 1990. That's when the Somali Civil War began.

The other team, AC Mogadiscio, stopped playing much earlier. This happened in 1960. That was the year Italy gave Somalia its independence. After independence, most Italians left Somalia.
