Lawrence Olum's Football Journey
Starting in College
Lawrence Olum spent four years playing college soccer at Missouri Baptist University. He was a very good player there. He earned special honors three times for his skills.
After finishing college, Lawrence started his first team in 2006. He played for the St. Louis Lions. This team was part of a league called the USL Premier Development League. He scored 9 goals in 16 games, which was a great start!
Playing Professionally
In 2007, Lawrence became a professional player. He joined the Portland Timbers. This team played in the USL First Division. Later, he moved to the Minnesota Thunder in 2009.
Lawrence also played for other teams like the Austin Aztex and Orlando City. In September 2011, he joined Sporting Kansas City. This team plays in Major League Soccer (MLS), which is the top soccer league in the United States.
In 2015, Lawrence went to play for Kedah FA in Malaysia. He played there for one season. After that, he came back to the United States. He rejoined Sporting Kansas City in December 2015.
On February 3, 2017, Lawrence moved back to the Portland Timbers. This time, the Timbers were also in Major League Soccer. He played for them until December 2018.
In 2019, Lawrence signed with Minnesota United FC. Then, in January 2020, he joined Miami FC. This team plays in the USL Championship.
Playing for His Country
Lawrence Olum also had the chance to play for his home country, Kenya. The Kenyan national team showed interest in him in 2009.
He was officially called to play for Kenya in November 2012. This was for a tournament called the 2012 CECAFA Cup. Lawrence made his first international game appearance in May 2014. It was a game where Kenya won 1–0 against Comoros.
