Lawrence Olum is a professional football (soccer) player from Kenya. He was born on July 10, 1984. He plays in two important positions on the field: as a defender and as a midfielder.

Lawrence Olum's Football Journey

Playing in College

Lawrence Olum played college soccer for four years at Missouri Baptist University. College soccer is when students play sports while studying at a university. He was recognized as a top player three times by the NAIA. The NAIA is a group that supports college sports.

He officially finished his studies at Missouri Baptist University in 2019. In 2021, he was honored by being added to their Hall of Fame.

After college, in 2006, Olum started playing for the St. Louis Lions. This team was part of the USL Premier Development League. He scored 9 goals in 16 games for them.

Professional Career

Olum became a professional football player in 2007. He joined the Portland Timbers, who played in the USL First Division. In March 2009, he moved to the Minnesota Thunder.

Later, he played for the Austin Aztex and Orlando City. In September 2011, he joined Sporting Kansas City, a team in Major League Soccer (MLS). MLS is the top professional soccer league in the United States and Canada.

In 2015, Olum moved to Asia to play for Kedah FA in the Malaysia Premier League. This is a professional league in Malaysia. After one season there, he returned to Sporting Kansas City in December 2015.

On February 3, 2017, Olum was traded back to the Portland Timbers. This time, the Timbers were also in MLS. He left Portland on December 10, 2018.

On March 15, 2019, Olum signed with Minnesota United FC. This team also plays in Major League Soccer.

His last known professional club was Miami FC. He joined them on January 16, 2020. Miami FC plays in the USL Championship, another professional soccer league in the United States.

Playing for His Country

Lawrence Olum was interested in playing for the Kenyan national team in November 2009. He was officially called to join the team in November 2012. This was for a tournament called the 2012 CECAFA Cup.

He made his first international appearance for Kenya in May 2014. This was in a game where Kenya won 1–0 against the Comoros.
