Lawson Vaughn (born April 11, 1984) is a former American soccer player. He played as a defender, which is a position on a soccer team that helps protect the goal. Vaughn played for several teams during his career, including C.D. Chivas USA and D.C. United.

Lawson Vaughn's Soccer Journey

Playing College Soccer

Lawson Vaughn grew up in Marietta, GA, and went to Lassiter High School. After high school, he started his college soccer journey at the University of South Carolina. He played there for two seasons, from 2002 to 2003. During his time with the Gamecocks, he played in 34 games. He scored one goal and helped his teammates score three times.

In 2004, Vaughn moved to the University of Tulsa. He continued playing college soccer for the Golden Hurricane for two more seasons. At Tulsa, he played in 43 matches. He scored three goals and made seven assists for his team. Playing college soccer is a great way for young athletes to develop their skills.

Becoming a Professional Player

After his college career, Lawson Vaughn hoped to play soccer professionally. He was chosen in the third round of the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft. This draft is a way for professional soccer teams to pick new players. C.D. Chivas USA picked him, and he joined their team.

Vaughn played for Chivas USA until August 2009. Later that year, on September 11, 2009, he signed with another team, D.C. United. He played a few games for D.C. United before being released by the club in March 2010. Being released means the team decided he was no longer needed. Lawson Vaughn then retired from playing professional soccer.
