Layqa Qullu is a tall mountain peak in Bolivia. Its name comes from the Aymara language. Layqa means "wizard" or "sorcerer," and qullu means "mountain." So, Layqa Qullu means "Wizard Mountain." It is also sometimes spelled Laica Kkollu.
This mountain is part of the Cordillera Real mountain range. This range is a part of the much larger Andes mountains in South America. Layqa Qullu stands at an impressive height of 6,166 meters (about 20,230 feet) above sea level.
Location and Features
Layqa Qullu is located in the La Paz Department of Bolivia. It is found in two different areas: the Murillo Province (specifically in Palca Municipality) and the Sud Yungas Province (in Irupana Municipality).
This peak is one of the highest points in the Illimani mountain group. The Illimani massif is a large cluster of peaks. Layqa Qullu is situated to the south-east of the very highest point of the Illimani group. It lies north-west of other peaks called Link'u Link'u and Silla Pata.
