Le Pinacle is a tall, pointed rock that sticks out from the coast in the northwest of Jersey. At its base, you can find old ruins and signs of human activity from many different time periods. These include the Neolithic (New Stone Age), the Copper Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age. There is also proof that a rectangular Gallo-Roman temple once stood there.

A Special Rock for Tools

A type of rock called dolerite is found at Le Pinacle. This rock was very important in ancient times. People living during the Neolithic period and the Bronze Age mined this dolerite. They used it to make strong axe heads and other tools.

An Ancient Landmark

Le Pinacle is a huge, natural rock formation. It is not something that humans built. This impressive rock is a well-known landmark in Jersey. You can easily see it from St Ouen's Bay, standing tall against the sky.

Signs of Roman Life

Among the many ancient discoveries at Le Pinacle, archaeologists found evidence of a Gallo-Roman temple. This means that people from the Roman period, who lived in the area, likely used this spot as a place of worship. It shows how important Le Pinacle was to different groups of people throughout history.
