Her Life Story
Leandra Becerra Lumbreras said she was born on August 31, 1887. Her parents were singers. If her birth date was correct, she would have been 27 when World War I began. She would have been 75 when John F. Kennedy was shot. Also, she would have been over 100 when the Berlin Wall fell.
Fighting in the Mexican Revolution
From 1910 to 1917, Leandra claimed she fought in the Mexican Revolution. This was a big war in Mexico. She said she was a leader of the Adelitas. The Adelitas were brave women who joined their husbands in battle.
During the revolution, Leandra said she was in love with Margarito Maldonado. He was a leader in the revolution. She said he gave her an old rifle. She still owned this rifle in 2014. Leandra called Maldonado "one of the great loves of her life."

Claims of Being the Oldest Person
Leandra Becerra Lumbreras claimed to be the oldest living person. But she could not prove her age. She said she lost her birth certificate in 1974 when she moved.
Why Her Age Was Not Verified
Because she did not have her birth certificate, her age could not be officially checked. Guinness World Records could not confirm her claim. Instead, they recognized Misao Okawa (1898-2015) as the world's oldest living person. They recognized Jeanne Calment (1875-1997) as the longest-lived person in history.
After Leandra's death on March 19, 2015, some news said the Mexican government confirmed her age. They said she was 127 when she died. But no officials have confirmed this information.
A Different Birth Record
A baptism record was found for a Leandra Becerra Lumbreras. This record was from June 4, 1904. This person was born in Joya de San Francisco, Bustamante, Tamaulipas. Her birth date was March 13, 1904. Her parents were Calixto Becerra and Basilia Lumbreras. If this was the same person, she would have been 111 years old when she died. This would mean she was only six years old when the Mexican Revolution started.
