Leandro Damián Marcelo Grimi (born February 9, 1985) is an Argentine former professional footballer. He played as a left-back during his career.

Club Career Highlights

Early Years and AC Milan

Leandro Grimi was born in San Lorenzo, Santa Fe, Argentina. He started his football journey playing for clubs like Club Atlético Huracán and Racing Club de Avellaneda in his home country. He played 11 matches in the Argentine Primera División, which is Argentina's top football league.

In January 2007, when he was 22, Grimi moved to Italy. He joined the famous Italian club AC Milan for €2 million. He played his first official game for Milan in the Coppa Italia (Italy's main cup competition). This was a 2–0 win against A.C. Arezzo.

On April 18, 2007, he made his first appearance in Serie A, Italy's top league. He played the last 12 minutes of a 5–2 victory against Ascoli Calcio 1898 FC. For the first half of the 2007–08 season, Grimi played on loan for A.C. Siena, another team in Serie A. A "loan" means a player temporarily plays for another team.

Time at Sporting CP

In January 2008, Grimi joined Sporting CP in Portugal, also on loan. He played 20 official games in his first year there. This included nine matches in the Primeira Liga, Portugal's top league. His team finished second in the league that year.

Sporting CP also won the Taça de Portugal (Portuguese Cup) that season. Grimi played the entire 120 minutes of the final match, which was a 2–0 win against FC Porto after extra time.

On July 13, 2008, AC Milan announced that Sporting CP had bought Grimi permanently. He signed a five-year contract. Sporting paid Milan €2.5 million for him. He scored his only goal in the Portuguese top league on March 14, 2010. This goal helped his team win 3–1 at home against Vitória de Guimarães.

After another player named Evaldo joined the team in 2010, Grimi played less often. He only appeared in four games during the 2010–11 season. On the last day of the 2011 summer transfer window (the period when teams can buy or sell players), he was loaned to K.R.C. Genk in Belgium.

Later Career and Retirement

Leandro Grimi left Estádio José Alvalade (Sporting CP's stadium) in June 2013. He became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team without a transfer fee.

After that, he played for several clubs back in Argentina's top league. These teams included Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba, Racing Club de Avellaneda, Newell's Old Boys, and Club Atlético Huracán.

Grimi officially announced his retirement from football on February 18, 2022. He was 37 years old at the time.
