Leco people facts for kids
The Leco People are an ethnic group living in Bolivia, a country in South America. Most Leco people live near Lake Titicaca, which is a very large lake high up in the Andes Mountains. In 2012, there were about 13,527 Leco people. However, only a small number of them, around 189, still spoke the original Leco language.
Who are the Leco People?
The Leco people are one of many different indigenous groups in Bolivia. Indigenous means they are the original people who lived in that land. They have their own unique history, traditions, and way of life that has been passed down through many generations.
Where do they live?
The Leco people traditionally live in the La Paz Department of Bolivia. This area is known for its beautiful mountains and the famous Lake Titicaca. Living near the lake and mountains has shaped their culture and how they live their daily lives.
Their Language
The Leco language is a native language spoken by the Leco people. Sadly, like many indigenous languages around the world, the Leco language is becoming less common. Only a small number of people still speak it fluently. Efforts are often made to help preserve and teach these languages so they don't disappear.
