Ledo Pizza is a popular American pizza place. It has many restaurants across the eastern United States, especially in states like Maryland, Virginia, and Florida. The very first Ledo Pizza opened way back in 1955 in Adelphi, Maryland. Today, its main office is in Annapolis, Maryland.
Ledo Pizza started letting other people open their own Ledo Pizza places (called franchises) in 1979. The first one was in Berwyn Heights, Maryland. Now, there are over 100 Ledo Pizza restaurants!
What Makes Ledo Pizza Special?
Ledo Pizza is famous for a few unique things.
- It's shaped like a square, not a circle! They even have a fun saying: "Ledo Pizza is square, because we don't cut corners." This means they do things the right way!
- It has a super thin crust.
- The sauce is a little sweet.
- They use smoked provolone cheese, which gives it a special flavor.
- The pepperoni pieces are thick and usually there's one on each slice.

Over the years, the restaurant chain has been known by a few different names, like "Ledo Pizza" and "Ledo Pizza and Pasta."
The Original Ledo Restaurant
The very first Ledo restaurant opened in 1955 in Adelphi, Maryland. It was started by the Marcos family. For a while, this original restaurant wasn't listed on the main Ledo Pizza website. This was because the family who started the first restaurant and the main Ledo Pizza company had some disagreements.
But don't worry, you can still find pizza made with the same original family recipe at T.J. Elliots in Bowie, Maryland. This restaurant is owned by Tommy and Jimmy Marcos, who are part of the family that started Ledo Pizza.
In 2010, the original Ledo restaurant moved from Adelphi to College Park, Maryland. It closed for a bit in 2020 but then reopened in 2021 as a Ledo franchise location, just like the other Ledo Pizza places.
In 2024, Ledo Pizza made a special deal to sponsor the Baltimore Orioles baseball team for several years.

Ledo Pizza has received some cool recognition!
- In 2019, a magazine called Pizza Today listed Ledo Pizza as #31 on its list of the Top 100 Pizza Companies. This was based on how much money their 106 restaurants made in 2018, which was $120,000,000!
- Ledo Pizza was even mentioned on The Oprah Winfrey Show as one of the best pizzas in America!
