Lehr Sultanpur facts for kids

Lehr Sultanpur is a village and a union council in Pakistan. A union council is like a small local government area. This village is located in the Chakwal District of the Punjab Province. It is also part of the Choa Saidan Shah Tehsil, which is a smaller administrative division.

Lehr Sultanpur is actually made up of four smaller villages. These are Khoti, Dhoak Jalap/Warra, Lehr, and Sultanpur. The people living here belong to different groups or tribes. These include the Mirza/Mughal, Janjua Rajput, and Jalap tribes.

History of Lehr Sultanpur

The history of Lehr Sultanpur is quite interesting, especially for the Janjua Rajput tribe.

The Siege of Kusak Fort

In the year 1810, something very important happened. The founder of the Sikh Empire, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, surrounded a fort called Kusak. At that time, Sultan Fateh Mohammad Khan Janjua was the king of Kusak State. He bravely defended his fort against Ranjit Singh's forces.

The Sultan and his people fought for six months. They managed to keep Ranjit Singh's army from taking over the fort. However, after such a long time, the people inside the Kusak Fort started to run out of important supplies. They had very little drinking water and food left.

Relocation and Return

Because of the lack of supplies, Sultan Mohammad had to make a difficult decision. He agreed to a peace deal with Ranjit Singh. After this, the Sultan and his entire tribe moved to a place called Haranpur. They lived there for 40 years.

Sultan Mohammad passed away in Haranpur in 1830. His family continued to live there until 1850. In that year, they decided to return to their original homeland. When they came back, they started a new village. This village was named Lehr Sultanpur. It was built right next to the old Kusak village. The land of the former Kusak State still belongs to the family of Sultan Fateh Mohammad Khan.
