Leipsic is a small, unincorporated community located in Northeast Township, Orange County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county.
A Look Back at Leipsic's History
Leipsic was first established in 1851. When it was first planned out, it had a different name: Lancaster. Later, the community was renamed Leipsic. This new name came from the local post office, which was likely named after a famous city in Germany called Leipzig.
The Leipsic post office opened its doors in 1852. It served the community for many years, helping people send and receive mail. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1980.
