Leisha Hailey is an American actress and musician. She is well-known for playing Alice Pieszecki in the TV series The L Word and The L Word: Generation Q. Hailey first became famous as a musician in the pop duo The Murmurs. She has continued her music career as part of the band Uh Huh Her.

Currently, Hailey plays Alice in The L Word: Generation Q. She also hosts a podcast called PANTS with her friend and fellow L Word star, Kate Moennig.

Early Life and Education

Leisha Hailey was born in Okinawa, which was then under US control (now part of Japan). Her parents were American. She grew up in Bellevue, Nebraska.

At 17, she moved to New York City. There, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. This is a famous school for actors.

Music Journey

In 1991, Leisha Hailey formed a pop duo called The Murmurs. She created this band with Heather Grody, a classmate from the Academy. In the 1990s, they released several albums. They also performed at the Lilith Fair music festival.

In 2001, Hailey and Grody changed their band's name to Gush. The group stopped making music when Hailey got a role in The L Word. In 2005, Hailey started her own record company, Marfa Records.

In July 2007, Hailey formed a new band called Uh Huh Her. This was an electropop duo with Camila Grey. They released an EP (a short album) called I See Red. About a year later, they released their first full album, Common Reaction.

Hailey also helped write the hit song "Don't Bother" for Shakira. This song was on Shakira's 2005 album, Oral Fixation Vol. 2.

Acting Roles

Hailey's first TV appearance was in 1996. She played a musician in an episode of Boy Meets World. Her first big movie role was in the 1997 film All Over Me.

From 2004 to 2009, she starred as Alice Pieszecki in The L Word. Her character was a journalist and a TV/radio host. In the series, Alice's character dated mostly women. In 2007, Hailey was voted #1 on the AfterEllen Hot 100 list. This list was put together by AfterEllen.com.

In September 2008, Showtime announced a possible spin-off show from The L Word. It was called The Farm. Hailey was set to star in it. However, in April 2009, Showtime decided not to make the show.

Hailey's independent film La Cucina won awards. It first showed on Showtime in December 2009. In this movie, she played a pregnant newlywed.

Hailey has also appeared in commercials. These include ads for Yoplait yogurt and BMW cars. In April 2008, she became a spokesperson for Olivia Cruises. This company offers cruises and vacations for lesbian customers.

In 2011, she starred in the movie Fertile Ground. This was a psychological thriller. In 2015, Hailey appeared in an episode of Supernatural. She played Amelia Novak, the wife of Jimmy Novak.
