Lena's Bar was a famous Thoroughbred mare (a female horse) born in 1954. She was a special horse because she raced against Quarter Horses. She became even more famous as a mother. Her sons, like Jet Smooth, Double Dancer, and Jet Deck, grew up to be amazing Quarter Horse stallions (male horses used for breeding).
Her Early Life
Lena's Bar was a Thoroughbred horse. Her father was a well-known stallion named Three Bars. Her mother was Lena Valenti. Interestingly, Lena's Bar had the same grandfather, Percentage, on both sides of her family tree! Her mother, Lena Valenti, also raced on Quarter Horse tracks. She won one race and came in third in another.
Her Racing Career
Lena's Bar mostly competed in Quarter Horse races. She ran in 76 races during her career. She was very good, winning 24 of those races! She also finished second 18 times and third 10 times. In total, she earned over $28,300, which was a lot of money back then.
The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) gave her a special "AAA" speed rating. This showed how fast she was. She even won important "stakes" races. In one race, she beat many other famous horses like Go Man Go! Her sister, Little Lena's Bar, was also very fast. She set four world records at different race distances.
Her Offspring
After Lena's Bar stopped racing, she became a mother. She gave birth to several important horses. Her sons, Double Dancer, Jet Smooth, and Easy Jet, became famous Quarter Horse stallions. She also had two daughters, Delta Ann and Mayflower Ann.
All five of her children were winners on the racetrack. They earned a combined total of over $557,000! Each of them also earned a "Register of Merit" from the AQHA. This award means they were top performers in racing.
Lena's Bar was a truly special horse. Because of her amazing racing and her successful children, she was honored in 2003. She was added to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. This is a very high honor for a horse.
