Lenna is a small community located in McIntosh County, Oklahoma, in the United States. It is known for its quiet, rural setting. The community's post office officially opened its doors on January 4, 1902. Lenna was named after a local Creek Indian girl named Lenna Moore.
How Lenna Got Its Name
The story of how Lenna got its name is quite interesting! It all began when a new post office was being set up near Stidham. Local leaders decided to hold a fun contest to pick a name for this new post office.
People were asked to submit names for a special drawing. A man named Tom Moore decided to put all of his children's names into the box. Guess what? His daughter Lenna's name was chosen! Her full name was Lennie Doddy Moore. That's how this Oklahoma community got its unique name. A book called "Oklahoma Place Names" also confirms that Lenna was named after a local Creek Indian.
