Lennonville is a fascinating ghost town located in Western Australia. It's found not far from the town of Mount Magnet. This town was officially started in 1898, but today, it's mostly empty.
The Story of Lennonville
Lennonville became an official town in 1896. This happened after two prospectors, Lennon and Palmer, discovered gold there two years earlier. Gold discoveries often led to new towns popping up quickly!
A Busy Gold Town
At its busiest, around the year 1900, Lennonville was a thriving place. It had about 3,000 people living there. The town even had five hotels, which shows how many people were around! It was even bigger and busier than nearby Mount Magnet and Boogardie at the time.
Why the Town Declined
However, by 1909, Lennonville was already starting to shrink. A big fire then swept through the main street of the town. This disaster caused many people to leave. Today, the most noticeable thing left from its busy past is the old railway platform. It's a quiet reminder of a once-lively gold mining town.
