Mr. Connors began his long career in local government. He was the Mayor of Surf City, New Jersey for a very long time. He served as mayor from 1966 until 2015. A mayor is the head of a town or city government.
Before becoming a state senator, he also served on the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders. He was a member of this board from 1977 to 1982. The Board of Chosen Freeholders was a group of elected officials who managed county affairs in New Jersey.
