Leonardo Favio, whose real name was Fuad Jorge Jury, was a famous Argentine singer, actor, and filmmaker. He was born on May 28, 1938, and passed away on November 5, 2012. Many people consider him one of Argentina's best film directors. He was also a very popular singer and songwriter across Latin America.
Leonardo Favio was very popular in Latin America. He had many hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s. Some of his famous songs include "Fuiste mía un verano" and "Ella ya me olvidó." Before becoming a well-known director, he also acted in many movies.
When he started his singing career in the mid-1960s, Favio was already a well-known film director. His first two movies, Chronicle of a Boy Alone and El Romance del Aniceto y la Francisca, are thought to be some of the best Argentine films ever made. He kept writing and directing, creating classic movies like El Dependiente (1969), Juan Moreira (1973), and Nazareno Cruz y el Lobo (1975).
In 1976, he released the movie Soñar, soñar. This film is now considered a cult classic. That same year, Favio had to leave Argentina to stay safe. He returned to Argentina when democracy came back in the 1980s. After 17 years, he made the successful film Gatica, el mono. His last film was Aniceto (2008). It was a musical remake of his earlier film, El romance del Aniceto y la Francisca.

Favio's Life Story
Favio was born Fuad Jorge Jury. His father was Jorge Jury Atrach, who had Syrian-Lebanese roots. His brother, Jorge Zuhair Jury, is also a writer and director. Favio was married to actress María Vaner. They had two children together. One of their children is the composer Nico Jury.
On October 9, 2010, the president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, named Favio Argentina's Ambassador of Culture. He passed away in Buenos Aires on November 5, 2012, at 74 years old.
