Leonidas Bernard "Lee" Young II (November 9, 1954 – January 16, 2016) was an American Baptist minister. He was an important leader in Richmond, Virginia. He served on the Richmond City Council from 1992 to 1999. He also held the position of mayor for the city. He was mayor from 1994 to 1996.
His Life and Work
Lee Young was a dedicated minister. He founded and led a church called New Kingdom Ministries in Richmond. Before that, he served as a minister at the city's Fourth Baptist Church. He passed away in 2016 when he was 61 years old.
Running for Office
Lee Young tried to become a state representative a few times. A state representative is a person who helps make laws for the state.
First Attempt in 1997
In 1997, Lee Young wanted to become a delegate for Virginia's 71st House district. A delegate is like a representative in the state government. He joined the Democratic primary election. This is a special election where people from the same political party choose their best candidate. He did not win the nomination. Viola Baskerville won instead. She then won the main election easily.
Another Try in 2015
On March 16, 2015, Lee Young announced he would run for office again. He wanted to represent the state's 74th district. This was a chance for him to return to politics.
