Leora is a small, quiet place in northern Stoddard County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Discovering Leora

Leora is found in the northern part of Stoddard County, Missouri. If you were to travel about thirteen miles north from the city of Dexter, you would arrive in Leora. It's a place where people live and work, even without a formal city government.

The Story Behind the Name

Leora has a history that goes back many years. A post office was opened in Leora in 1880. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. The post office served the community for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1969. The community itself was named after a young girl named Leora White. She was the daughter of one of the very first settlers who came to live in this area.
