Leroy Matlock (born March 12, 1907 – died February 6, 1968) was a talented American baseball pitcher. He played in the Negro leagues from 1929 to 1938. He was known as one of the best left-handed pitchers of his time.

Leroy Matlock's Baseball Journey

Leroy Matlock started his professional baseball career in 1929. He played for several teams during his time in the Negro leagues. These teams included the St. Louis Stars, the Homestead Grays, and the Pittsburgh Crawfords.

All-Star Achievements

Matlock was a standout player, especially in the mid-1930s. His skills earned him a spot in the important East-West All-Star Game twice. He was chosen for this special game in both 1935 and 1936. This showed that other players and fans recognized him as one of the best.

A Respected Player

Even years after he stopped playing, Leroy Matlock was still remembered for his talent. In 1952, when he was 45 years old, he received votes in a special poll. This poll was run by the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper. Baseball players from the Negro leagues voted on who they thought were the greatest players ever. Matlock being on this list shows how much he was respected by his peers.

Leroy Matlock passed away in 1968. He is buried in the Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota.
