Les Percéides facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Les Percéides is a cool film festival that happens every year in a beautiful town called Percé, in Quebec, Canada. It's a special event where people can watch movies, often under the stars!

What's in a Name?

The festival's name, Les Percéides, is a mix of two things. First, it comes from the town of Percé itself. Second, it's inspired by the Perseids meteor shower, which is when you can see lots of shooting stars in the sky. This meteor shower is called perséides in French. The festival takes place in August, right around the time these shooting stars appear. This connection is perfect because the main event of the festival is a big movie screening held outdoors on the town's public beach at night!

Where Movies Come to Life

Besides the amazing outdoor gala on the beach, other movies at the festival are usually shown at the Centre d'art de Percé and the La Vieille Usine arts centre. These are local art spots.

In 2020, something a bit different happened. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival had to change things up. All the movies were shown outdoors at a drive-in theater called Paradiso de Petit-Pabos, which is in a nearby town. Even better, all the films were also available to watch online from the festival's website for 24 hours after they were shown. This meant more people could enjoy them safely!

Festival History and Awards

The Les Percéides festival started in 2009. It quickly became a popular event for movie lovers.
