Lesley B. Cormack was born in 1957. She is a Canadian historian. She studies the history of science. This means she looks at how science, math, and geography have changed over time. She is also a leader at a big university. She is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus. This is a major role in running the university.

Her Journey in Education

Lesley Cormack studied at several universities. She earned her first degree (a BA) from the University of Calgary. She then went on to get her Master's degree (MA) and her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. She finished her Ph.D. in 1988.

After her studies, she became a professor. She taught at the University of Alberta until 2007. Then, she moved to Simon Fraser University. There, she became the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. A Dean is a leader for a group of subjects at a university.

In 2010, she returned to the University of Alberta. She became the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. During her time there, she helped more Indigenous students join the university. The number of Indigenous students doubled! In 2020, she moved to the UBC Okanagan Campus. She became the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal there.

Lesley Cormack is an expert in history. She focuses on the 1500s (the 16th century) in England. She studies how people understood geography and mathematics back then.

Awards and Recognition

Lesley Cormack is a respected historian. In 2010, she became a member of the International Academy of the History of Science. This is a special group for top historians of science. She became a full member in 2015.
