Lesli Glatter was born in Dallas, Texas. She started her career as a dancer and a choreographer, which means she created dance routines. She even choreographed for the movie To Live and Die in L.A. and the music video for Sheila E.'s song "The Glamorous Life".
Her first film, Tales of Meeting and Parting (1984), was a short film. It was so good that it was nominated for an Academy Award! She made this film as part of a special program called the American Film Institute Directing Workshop for Women.
In 1995, Lesli directed her first full-length movie, Now and Then. This film is a coming-of-age story about four 12-year-old girls and their adventures during a summer in 1970.
Most of Lesli's work has been in television series. She has been nominated six times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. In 2018, Lesli became the chair of the advisory council for NBC's Female Forward program. This program helps ten women directors each year. They get to learn from experienced directors on a TV show and then direct at least one episode themselves!
In 2019, Lesli Glatter became an executive producer for the Netflix thriller series, Pieces of Her. More recently, she started her own company, Backyard Pictures, with Cheryl Bloch.
