Jesse Plemons (born April 2, 1988) is an American actor. He is known for his many roles in popular TV shows and movies. Jesse has been nominated for an Academy Award, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and a British Academy Film Award.
He started acting when he was very young. Jesse became well-known for playing Landry Clarke in the TV series Friday Night Lights (2006–2011). He also played Todd Alquist in the final season of the crime drama series Breaking Bad (2012–2013) and its movie El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019).
Jesse has also earned Emmy nominations for his roles in Fargo (2015), Black Mirror (2017), and Love & Death (2023). He has appeared in many films, including Bridge of Spies (2015), Game Night (2018), and The Irishman (2019).
For his role in The Power of the Dog (2021), he was nominated for an Academy Award. In 2024, he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor for his roles in the movie Kinds of Kindness. Jesse is often recognized for playing quiet and intense characters. He also has a noticeable Texan accent and often uses dramatic pauses when he speaks.

Jesse Plemons' Early Life
Jesse Plemons was born in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in a small town called Mart, Texas, which is near Waco. His father, Jim Bob, was a firefighter and enjoyed rodeo. His mother, Lisa, was a special education trainer. Jesse is the younger of their two children.
In 2007, Jesse finished high school through an online program called the Texas Tech University Independent School District. This allowed him to keep acting. He played football in middle school and junior high in Mart before focusing more on his acting career.

Starting Out: 1991–2006
Jesse Plemons began acting very early, appearing in a Coca-Cola commercial when he was just three years old. By age eight, he started doing extra work in movies and TV shows. His family supported him as he went to auditions in Los Angeles.
He had small parts in films like Varsity Blues (1999) and All the Pretty Horses (2000). He also guest-starred on TV shows such as Walker, Texas Ranger and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. His first bigger role was in the film Children on their Birthdays (2002). Jesse also appeared in Like Mike (2002) and When Zachary Beaver Came to Town (2003). Between 2003 and 2006, he had guest roles on shows like Judging Amy, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and Grey's Anatomy.
Becoming Known: Friday Night Lights (2006–2011)
In 2006, when Jesse was 18, he joined the cast of the TV series Friday Night Lights. The show was filmed in Austin, Texas, and was about a high school football team. Jesse played Landry Clarke, the best friend of the quarterback. Landry was known for being funny and not on the football team at first.
Even though his character didn't play football, Jesse was actually very good at it. In the second season, Landry joined the team. Jesse, who had played football in high school, did his own stunts. In one scene, he got hurt and needed stitches. The show was very popular with fans and critics and ran for five seasons until 2011.
In 2012, Jesse worked again with his Friday Night Lights co-star Taylor Kitsch and director Peter Berg in the movie Battleship. Peter Berg said he included Jesse because he knew Jesse and Taylor worked well together.
Diverse Roles: 2011–2019
From 2012 to 2013, Jesse played Todd Alquist in the final season of the drama series Breaking Bad. He was a recurring character at first and then became a main cast member.
In 2012, Jesse also had a supporting role in the film The Master. He played the son of a character played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. In 2014, Jesse was considered for a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the part went to another actor.
In 2015, Jesse appeared in the film Black Mass and The Program. He also starred in the Steven Spielberg film Bridge of Spies. Later in 2015, Jesse co-starred in the second season of the TV show Fargo. He played Ed Blumquist, a butcher married to Peggy Blumquist (Kirsten Dunst). His performance earned him an Emmy nomination.
In 2016, Jesse starred in the film Other People. In 2017, he appeared in several movies, including American Made, Hostiles, and Steven Spielberg's The Post.
In December 2017, Jesse was in an episode of the show Black Mirror called "USS Callister". He played Robert Daly, the main character, and was nominated for another Emmy. In 2018, Jesse had roles in the comedy Game Night and the film Vice. In 2019, he had a supporting role in the crime drama The Irishman. He also returned as Todd Alquist in the movie El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
Expanding His Career: 2020–Present
In 2020, Jesse Plemons received praise for his lead role in the drama I'm Thinking of Ending Things. In 2021, he had supporting roles in Judas and the Black Messiah and the Disney adventure film Jungle Cruise. That same year, he starred in the horror film Antlers.
Jesse also starred alongside his wife, Kirsten Dunst, in the drama The Power of the Dog (2021). His performance earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination. In 2022, Jesse starred in and produced the thriller Windfall.
In 2023, Jesse starred with Elizabeth Olsen in the true crime series Love & Death. He also reunited with director Martin Scorsese for a supporting role in the western-thriller Killers of the Flower Moon, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. This film premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
In 2024, Jesse starred in Kinds of Kindness with Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. For his work in this film, he won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor. Jesse also appeared in a small role in the film Civil War in 2024.
Looking ahead, Jesse is set to appear in the political thriller series Zero Day in 2025. He will also star in the science fiction comedy film Bugonia in 2025. He will also return as Robert Daly in a new episode of Black Mirror in 2025. In 2026, Jesse will play Plutarch Heavensbee in the The Hunger Games prequel movie Sunrise on the Reaping.
Jesse Plemons' Personal Life
Jesse Plemons is married to fellow actor Kirsten Dunst. They started dating in March 2016 after working together on Fargo, and they got engaged a year later. They have two sons, born in 2018 and 2021. Jesse and Kirsten were both nominated for Academy Awards in 2022 for their roles in The Power of the Dog. They got married in July 2022.
Health and Fitness
In 2015, Jesse gained weight for his role in the movie Black Mass. In 2024, he shared that he had lost over 50 pounds. He did this by trying intermittent fasting and eating healthy, whole foods. He later said he regretted changing his body so much for a role. He also clarified that he did not use certain medications for weight loss.
