Taylor Kitsch (born April 8, 1981) is a Canadian actor. He is well-known for playing Tim Riggins in the TV show Friday Night Lights from 2006 to 2011.
He has also acted in many movies. Some of his famous film roles include X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Battleship (2012), and John Carter (2012). Taylor Kitsch has also appeared in TV series like True Detective (2015) and played David Koresh in the miniseries Waco (2018).

Early life and beginnings
Taylor Kitsch was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. His parents separated when he was very young. He and his two older brothers were raised by their mother. He also has two younger half-sisters.
Taylor grew up in Port Moody and Anmore. He went to Gleneagle Secondary School in Coquitlam. He started playing ice hockey when he was three years old. He played junior ice hockey for the Langley Hornets. However, a knee injury in 2002 ended his hockey career. After his injury, he studied nutrition and economics at the University of Lethbridge for a year.
Moving to New York and Los Angeles
In 2002, Kitsch moved to New York City. He had an opportunity to work as a model. While there, he also started studying acting. He worked as a nutritionist and personal trainer to support himself. For a short time in New York, he didn't have a permanent home and sometimes slept on subway trains.
In 2004, he moved to Los Angeles. He continued modeling for brands like Diesel and Abercrombie & Fitch. He also appeared in a special photography book called About Face.
Acting career highlights
In 2006, Taylor Kitsch got his big break in the TV series Friday Night Lights. This show was about a high school football team in a fictional Texas town. Taylor played Tim Riggins, a popular high school football player. The show was very popular and received great reviews.
Early film roles
He played Pogue Parry in the movie The Covenant in 2006. In 2008, he was chosen to play Gambit in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. This film came out in 2009. Gambit is a well-known character from the X-Men comics. Taylor said he loved the character and his special powers.
In 2010, Kitsch starred in The Bang Bang Club. This was a historical drama set in South Africa. He played a photojournalist named Kevin Carter. For this role, he had to lose a lot of weight.
Big screen adventures
In 2012, Taylor Kitsch starred in the Disney film John Carter. He played the main character, a soldier who travels to Mars. Even though the movie didn't do well at the box office, Kitsch said he was very proud of his work in it.
In May 2012, Kitsch also starred in Battleship. This movie was based on the popular board game. He played Lieutenant Alex Hopper. This film brought him back together with director Peter Berg and his former Friday Night Lights co-star, Jesse Plemons.
Later in 2012, he appeared in the movie Savages. Critics praised his acting in this film, especially his connection with his co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Taylor Kitsch continued to take on many different roles. He was in another Peter Berg film, Lone Survivor, in 2013. This movie was based on a true story. In 2014, he appeared in the TV film The Normal Heart.
In 2015, Kitsch starred in the second season of the HBO series True Detective. He acted alongside Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Colin Farrell. In 2017, he starred in the films American Assassin and Only the Brave.
In 2018, he played the role of cult leader David Koresh in the miniseries Waco. In 2019, Kitsch starred in 21 Bridges with Chadwick Boseman. In 2020, he was in the German TV series The Defeated. In 2022, he played Ben Edwards in the series The Terminal List with Chris Pratt. In 2023, he starred in the miniseries Painkiller. He is also set to star in the Netflix series American Primeval in 2025.
Personal life
Taylor Kitsch bought land near Lake Austin, Texas, in 2012 and started building a house there in 2015. He currently lives in Bozeman, Montana. While working on the film Lone Survivor, he became good friends with a retired Navy SEAL named Marcus Luttrell. Since then, Taylor has become very interested in helping veterans.
