Allenton
Allenton is a small community that is not officially incorporated as a town. It is located about 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of exit 176 on Interstate 69. The ZIP code for Allenton, 48002, covers all of Berlin Township.
Allenton was started around 1844 by Kerkimer Smith. He was an innkeeper who ran a stagecoach line to Detroit. At first, it was called "Smith's Corners." It also had a train station named "Smith" on the Pere Marquette Railway. A post office opened here in 1883. In 1910, it was renamed Allenton. This new name honored Darius and Jesse Allen, who were important leaders in the community.
Berville
Berville is another community in Berlin Township. It is located about 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) north of Armada. Berville is also part of the 48002 ZIP code area.
The name Berville comes from the first part of "Berlin Township." People started buying land here in 1835, and families began settling by 1840. Berville had its own post office from 1862 until 1962. Locally, people sometimes called it "Baker's Corners."
East Berlin
East Berlin was the name of a post office that operated in Berlin Township for a short time. It was open from 1851 to 1856.
Lesterville
Lesterville was a historic place in the township. It was located where Belle River/Beardsley Road and Sperry Road meet. It began as a mill settlement around 1866 and was first known as "Lester's Mills." Because it was on the Belle River, it was also called "Belle River." A post office with that name opened in 1867. The spelling changed to "Belleriver" in 1895, and the post office closed in 1904.
