The Story of Leven Thumps
Foo is a special place that exists in our minds. It's where all our hopes, dreams, and imagination come from. Leven Thumps, who was once a regular 14-year-old from Oklahoma, was brought to Foo for a very important mission. He needs to stop dark forces in Foo from taking over the real world, called Reality.
In this fourth book, a big war has already started. The goal is to combine Foo and Reality. Leven has become "The Want," a powerful leader. He, along with Geth and Winter, must race across Foo to stop this war. If they fail, everything could be lost.
Foo is a beautiful place with amazing shores and skies. But its beauty is quickly fading. A huge darkness called the Dearth is rising from underground. The Dearth is the true evil of Foo. It is helped by Azure and an army of strange creatures called rants. They have brought war right to the borders of Sycophant Run.
Normally, the sycophants, like Clover, could handle this. But their secret weakness has been revealed. This makes Clover and his kind more vulnerable than ever before.
Meanwhile, in Reality, Terry and Addy are causing trouble. They are about to join forces with Ezra. Ezra is a very angry and confused toothpick. He knows many secrets and is very selfish. He might even sacrifice everyone's dreams to get what he wants.
Get ready for an adventure! You'll meet strange Eggmen and ride on the backs of Waves. You'll discover the Invisible Village and travel using ropes. There's even a chocolate wrestling match and a blindfolded battle. And, of course, you'll see amazing, impossible things with the awesome Geth.
What Happens Next?
The fifth and final book in the series has been announced. It is called Leven Thumps and the Ruins of Alder.
About the Cover
This book is special because Leven is not on the front cover. It's the only one in the series like that.
Meet the Characters
Leven Thumps
Leven is 14 years old. He is the grandson of Hector Thumps, who built a special gateway. At first, Leven knew nothing about Foo or his family's history. He later finds out he is an "offing." This means he can see and change the future. He is very good at controlling the weather, like making it rain or controlling the wind. When Leven uses his gift, his brown eyes turn gold. He is also special because he can change the future from far away. Leven also knows a secret way to defeat a sycophant. He has now become "The Want." After he helps a longing Phoebe, he falls in love with Winter.
Winter Frore
Winter is 13 years old. She has white-blond hair and deep green eyes. Her pale skin and flowing clothes make her look like a shy spirit. Winter is a "nit," which means she can freeze anything she wants. She was taken to Foo, but she lost all her memories from her old life. Winter struggles to understand her purpose. In the second book, a machine she created in her past life takes her gift away. She also falls deeply in love with Leven after Phoebe is released.
Geth
Geth is the rightful ruler of Foo. He is one of the Lithens, the first people chosen to live in Foo. Sabine once turned him into a Fantrum seed. He grew into a giant plant until Leven's uncle, Terry Graph, cut him down. Geth then became a toothpick. He helped Leven try to stop the war between Reality and Foo. In Leven Thumps and the Whispered Secret, Geth returned to his original form. His city was also restored. Now, he has joined Leven to help save Foo. His brother was Zale, but it seems Zale has died.
Clover Ernest
Clover is a funny sycophant from Foo. He was sent by a nit named Antsel to look after Leven. Leven becomes his "burn." Clover is always trying to find a nickname for Leven, like "Chief" or "Big Man." Winter calls Leven "Lev." Clover can turn invisible with his special cloak. This cloak also hides his secret void. As a sycophant, there is only one way he can die. Only the sycophants and Leven know this secret.
Tim Tuttle
Tim Tuttle used to be Winter's neighbor. He has looked after her for many years. When she goes missing, he searches for her. Now, he has entered Foo and is still looking for Winter. He finds a blond sycophant named Swig. Tim's own special ability has not yet been discovered.
Dennis
Dennis is a very ordinary man with a very ordinary life. But then he meets Ezra, who is Geth's evil half. Now, Dennis and Ezra are working together to find another way into Foo.
Ezra
Ezra is the angry, evil part of Geth's soul. A company called Tatum split Geth's soul in half. Ezra's angry side was put into another toothpick. Ezra tricked Dennis into working for him, but Ezra is just using him. Ezra's main goal is to destroy Geth. Ezra is a long, fancy toothpick used to hold sandwiches together. He has a purple frill on his head and only one eye. He and Dennis are traveling across our world, hoping to find a way back into Foo.
Azure
Azure is a Lithen who betrayed Foo. He did this because the Dearth's power was too strong. He took over Sabine's role and now leads the army of rants and other creatures. They want to combine Reality with Foo. However, Azure still has some good inside him. This goodness is in his right ear, which bleeds constantly. He scratches it when he is angry or annoyed because that bit of goodness is still there.
