Lew Frederick (born December 1951) is an American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Currently, he represents District 22 in the Oregon Senate.

Early Life and Education
Lew Frederick was born in Pullman, Washington. He grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Atlanta, Georgia. His father, Dr. Lafayette Frederick, was a botanist and professor at Howard University. Lew Frederick has lived in northeast Portland since 1974.
Lew Frederick's Career in Public Service
Lew Frederick has had a long career helping his community. He was a teacher at the Metropolitan Learning Center. He also worked as a reporter for radio and TV at KGW for 17 years.
He served as the Director of Public Information for Portland Public Schools. He was also an Assistant to the President at Portland Community College. Later, he held a position on the State Board of Education. In 2013, he received an award from Earlham College.
Serving in the Oregon House
In October 2009, Lew Frederick became a member of the Oregon House of Representatives. He worked on important committees. These included the Human Services Committee and the Sustainability & Economic Development Committee.
At one point, he was the only African-American man serving in the Oregon Legislature. This made him a very important leader in Oregon.
Moving to the Oregon Senate
Lew Frederick later moved to the Oregon State Senate. He continued to work on important issues. He served as Vice-Chair of the Land Use Committee. He also worked on the Ways and Means Committee, which handles state money.
His Chief of Staff is Nathan Soltz. Nathan Soltz is also the Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon.
