Li Ruihuan (born September 17, 1934) is a Chinese politician who is now retired. He was a very important leader in China's government for many years.

Li Ruihuan was a member of the Politburo Standing Committee. This group is like the top decision-making team in China. He was part of this powerful group from 1989 to 2002. Later, he led the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from 1993 to 2003. Before these big roles, he was a top leader in the city of Tianjin.

Early Life and Skills

Li Ruihuan was born in September 1934 in Baodi, Tianjin. His family were farmers. He started his career as a carpenter.

From 1951 to 1965, he worked as a construction worker in Beijing. In his free time, he studied at an architecture engineering institute. He even earned a college certificate.

Li Ruihuan was known for inventing a "simplified calculation method" for carpentry. This new method made the old ways of building much better. Because of his amazing skills, people called him "young Lu Ban". Lu Ban was a legendary master carpenter from ancient China.

Rising in Politics

Li Ruihuan quickly moved up in the construction world. Then, he started to get involved in politics in Tianjin.

Mayor of Tianjin

He became the Mayor of Tianjin in 1982. As mayor, he worked hard to improve the city. He focused on making urban housing better and improving public transport.

He became very popular with the people of Tianjin. He had special radio and television shows where he would answer residents' questions directly. This helped him connect with the people he served.

National Leadership Roles

In 1989, Li Ruihuan became a member of the Politburo Standing Committee. This was a very high-level position in the Chinese government.

In 1993, he became the Chairman of the CPPCC. The CPPCC is an important advisory body in China. Its leader helps to bring different parts of society together. They also offer ideas to the government.

Li Ruihuan was the sixth person to hold this important role. Some very famous leaders like Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai held it before him.

Retirement

Li Ruihuan retired from his main political roles in 2003 when he was 68 years old. He made a public appearance at the 20th Party Congress on October 16, 2022.
