The Story of Libertad
Libertad's history began in the 1870s. Back then, it was a small farming community. People gathered around a special kind of public house called a pulpería. This pulpería was named La Libertad, which means "Freedom". The town later took its name from this popular spot.
How Many People Live Here?
According to a count done in 2001, about 100,476 people lived in Libertad. This makes it a busy and important place within the Merlo area.
What Are Its Neighbors?
Libertad is surrounded by several other towns and areas. To the west, you'll find Parque San Martín. To the south is Pontevedra. If you go northwest, you'll reach Merlo. To the north are San Antonio de Padua and parts of Morón. And to the east, Libertad borders La Matanza Partido.
Working for the Future
For many years, some important people in Libertad have been working hard. They want Libertad to become its own separate local government area, or partido. This would mean the city would have more control over its own decisions and future.
