Exploring Library Tower Chicago

Where is Library Tower Chicago?

The Library Tower Chicago is found in the heart of Chicago, Illinois, in the Loop area. It is on State Street, a well-known street in the city. Its location is very close to the main building of the Chicago Public Library. This makes it easy for residents to access books and learning resources.

How the Building Changed Over Time

When the Library Tower was first planned, it was going to be much taller. The original idea was for it to have 32 floors and be about 370 feet high. However, people living nearby had some concerns. About 1,100 neighbors signed a petition asking for changes.

Because of this petition, the building's plans were made smaller. The number of floors for parking cars was cut in half, from eight floors to four. Also, the total number of homes, called condominiums, was reduced. It went from 227 units down to 182 units. Most of these homes have two bedrooms.

Designing a Skyscraper

The design of the Library Tower also changed before construction began. The first plan for the outside of the building was a "poured concrete exposed system." This means the concrete structure would have been visible. But this was changed to a "masonry cladding with recessed balconies." This means the building's exterior is now covered with brick or stone materials, and the balconies are set back into the building.

The company that designed this building is called Solomon, Cordwell, Buenz and Associates. They are the architects who made the plans for the Library Tower Chicago.
