School History
How the School Started
Santa Cruz High School began on August 2, 1963. It was first called the Santa Cruz High School of Men. A local group called the Rotary Club suggested the idea. The governor of Santa Cruz at the time, Carlos Cardoen Decoene, also helped make it happen.
A person named Adriano Díaz gave some land for the school. However, a sports area was built there instead.
First Classes and Students
Classes officially started on March 1, 1964. The school was in an old house on Nicolás Palacios Street. About 170 students attended in four classes.
Many students had already studied subjects like history and literature at Pedro Aguirre Cerda High School. But their previous studies were not officially counted at the new school.
Early Leadership
The first principal of Santa Cruz High School was Osvaldo Castillo. He hired teachers for the school. Most of these teachers had also worked at Pedro Aguirre Cerda High School.
School Symbols
The school's logo and flag both show palm trees. These trees are very common in the city of Santa Cruz. The school's special song, called the anthem, was written by Raúl Benavides.
