Santa Cruz High School, also known as Liceo Santa Cruz, is a public high school in Chile. It is located in the city of Santa Cruz, Chile. This school helps students prepare for college and future careers.
School History: How it Began
The school started on August 2, 1963. It was first called the Santa Cruz High School for Men. A local group called the Rotary Club suggested creating the school. The governor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Cardoen Decoene, also supported the idea.
A person named Adriano Díaz gave some land for the school. However, a sports field was built there instead.
First Classes and Students
Classes officially began on March 1, 1964. The school started in an old house on Nicolás Palacios Street. About 170 students attended in four different classes.
Some students had already studied subjects like history and literature at another school. This was Pedro Aguirre Cerda High School. But their previous studies did not count at the new Santa Cruz High School.
Early Leadership and Symbols
The first principal of Santa Cruz High School was Osvaldo Castillo. He hired many teachers for the new school. Most of these teachers had worked at Pedro Aguirre Cerda High School before.
The school has its own special symbols. Its logo and flag both show palm trees. These trees are very common in the city of Santa Cruz. The school also has an anthem, which is like a special song. Raúl Benavides wrote the music for the anthem.
