Licia Maglietta (born November 16, 1954) is a talented Italian actress and stage director. She is well-known for her work with Italian director Silvio Soldini. Their movies together include the romantic films Bread and Tulips (2000) and Agata and the Storm (2004). Licia Maglietta won many awards for her role in Bread and Tulips. In 2002, she also won an Italian Golden Globe for the drama movie Red Moon.

Early Acting Career
Licia Maglietta was born in Naples, Italy. She studied theatre, dance, and even architecture. In 1981, she joined an exciting theatre group called "Falso Movimento." This group later changed its name to Teatri Uniti. She worked with director Mario Martone there. Licia also performed in a theatre company with actor Carlo Cecchi and directed several plays herself.
Licia Maglietta started acting on screen in the mid-1980s. She appeared in several TV shows. One of her early TV roles was playing Desdemona in a 1985 TV movie based on Shakespeare's play Othello. After working with Mario Martone on a short film in 1985, she later starred in his first full-length movie, Death of a Neapolitan Mathematician (1992).
Working with Silvio Soldini
Licia Maglietta starred in three movies directed by the Italian writer and director Silvio Soldini. She received many awards for their second movie together, Bread and Tulips.
First Collaboration: The Acrobats
Maglietta and Soldini first worked together on the drama The Acrobats (1997). In this film, Licia plays a divorced woman who becomes friends with another woman from a different part of Italy. The Acrobats was shown at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, which is a very famous film event.
Breakout Role: Bread and Tulips
Licia Maglietta's most famous role came in the 2000 romantic comedy Bread and Tulips. She played Rosalba Barletta, a housewife who often has accidents. Rosalba gets left behind during a bus tour and finds herself alone in Venice. There, she gets a job and finds a place to stay with a kind but mysterious maître d' (played by Bruno Ganz). The movie won over 30 awards! Licia Maglietta herself won at least five awards for her performance. These included a David di Donatello, a Nastro d'Argento, and a Ciak d'oro.
Final Collaboration: Agata and the Storm
Maglietta's last movie with Silvio Soldini was the 2004 romantic comedy Agata and the Storm. In this film, she played a woman who runs a bookshop in the Italian port city of Genoa. Her character falls in love with a younger man.
Recent Career
Since 2004, Licia Maglietta has mostly appeared in television roles. These include Italian TV series like In Treatment. In this show, she played a supervisor to the main character, who was a psychologist. She also appeared in Una Pallottola nel Cuore, which means Bulletproof Heart.
