Wesley Eric Weston Jr. (born March 3, 1981), known by his stage name Lil' Flip, is an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He started his career as a freestyle and battle rapper, which means he was skilled at making up rhymes on the spot.

In 1999, he signed with a local record label called Suckafree Records. His career took off, and by 2004, he had two major hit songs, "Game Over" and "Sunshine". These songs became very popular across the United States, reaching high spots on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

Musical Career

1999–2003: Early Success

In 1999, Lil' Flip signed his first record deal with Sucka Free, a label based in his hometown of Houston. On July 18, 2000, he released his first album, The Leprechaun. This album caught the attention of the famous DJ Screw, who was a key figure in the Houston hip-hop scene.

DJ Screw was so impressed with Lil' Flip's talent that he invited him to join his group, the Screwed Up Click. He even gave Lil' Flip the nickname "The Freestyle King" because of his amazing ability to improvise lyrics.

In 2002, Lil' Flip's career grew even bigger when Columbia Records, a major record label, partnered with Sucka Free. This deal helped his music reach a wider audience. On August 27, 2002, he released his second album, Undaground Legend. It was a huge success and was certified Platinum, meaning it sold over a million copies. The album included the popular single "The Way We Ball".

2004–2005: Mainstream Hits

In 2004, Lil' Flip released his third album, U Gotta Feel Me. It was a double album, which means it had two discs full of music. The album's first single was "Game Over". His next single, "Sunshine", became one of his biggest hits.

U Gotta Feel Me was certified Platinum in August 2004. During this time, Lil' Flip was very busy. He was featured on a remix of Beyoncé's song "Naughty Girl" and worked with other famous artists like Nelly and Chamillionaire. He also appeared on the soundtrack for the movie 2 Fast 2 Furious.

2007–2009: Starting His Own Label

In 2007, Lil' Flip decided to take more control of his music by starting his own record label, Clover G Records. He partnered with major companies like Asylum and Warner Bros. to help release his music.

His first album on his new label was I Need Mine, released on March 27, 2007. It performed well, landing at number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album included the singles "What It Do" and "Ghetto Mindstate".

To get fans excited for his next big project, Ahead of My Time, he released two albums in 2009. The first was Respect Me, followed by his first fully independent album, Underground Legend 2, which he released through Clover G Records.

2010–Present: Independent Releases

Lil' Flip released Ahead of My Time on July 6, 2010. He released it independently through his own label, showing that he could successfully manage his own music career.

He continued to release music for his fans. On October 31, 2013, he released his album The Black Dr. Kevorkian. In 2015, he released his sixth studio album, El Jefe. The main single, "Game Over II", was a sequel to his famous 2004 hit.
