Early Life and Musical Roots
Jazz Butler was born on October 3, 1995, in Teaneck, New Jersey. His parents are both famous musicians. His father, Ishmael Butler, is from the group Digable Planets. His mother, Cheryl Gamble, is known as "Coko" from the group SWV.
Growing up, Jazz listened to different kinds of music. He enjoyed punk rock and Southern hip-hop. These styles inspired him to create his own music. His parents lived in different places, so he spent time with both of them. During his teenage years, he lived in Seattle, Washington. He attended McClure Middle School and Garfield High School there.
Starting a Music Career
Becoming Lil Tracy: Early Years
Jazz Butler started making music when he was 15 years old. When he was 18, he moved to Los Angeles to focus more on his music. He began rapping under the name "Yung Bruh." He released several mixtapes with a music group called Thraxxhouse.
Later, some members of Thraxxhouse, including Tracy, formed their own group called GothBoiClique. Through this group, he met New York rapper Lil Peep. They quickly worked together on a song called "White Tee." This song was part of Lil Peep's Crybaby mixtape and became very popular in the underground hip-hop world.
New Name, New Music: 2017
In 2016, Jazz Butler changed his stage name from Yung Bruh to Lil Tracy. He found out another artist was already using the name "Yung Bruh." Under his new name, he released his mixtape Tracy's Manga on February 1, 2017.
Just two months later, on April 3, he released another mixtape called XOXO. Lil Tracy was also featured on the popular song "Awful Things" with Lil Peep. This song became a big hit, reaching number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He then released Life of a Popstar on July 31, 2017.
Albums and EPs: 2018-Present
In 2018, Lil Tracy released two Extended Plays (EPs). These were Designer Talk on October 5 and Sinner on November 2. An EP is like a mini-album with fewer songs.
On September 20, 2019, Lil Tracy released his first full-length album, called Anarchy. He continued to release new music. His second album, Designer Talk 2, came out on November 13, 2020. His third album, Saturn Child, was released on June 3, 2022.
