Where is Lime Ridge?
Lime Ridge is found at these coordinates: 43°28′5″N 90°9′13″W / 43.46806°N 90.15361°W. It covers an area of about 1 square mile (2.59 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
A Look at Lime Ridge's Past
The first people came to Lime Ridge in the late 1850s. They cleared the land to grow crops. Others used the wood from trees to make things like railroad ties.
The village got its first post office in 1858. In 1867, Wesley Marsh opened a store. It was later sold to John T. Pollock, then to Robert L. Bohn in 1876.
The Bohn family also built a dam and a sawmill. They bought wood from local farmers. This wood was turned into barrel parts and sent to cities. Bohn also opened a hotel and a bank.
Churches in the Community
Over the years, different churches were built in Lime Ridge.
- In 1874, the United Brethren church opened. Baptists and Methodists also used it.
- An Adventist church was built in 1890.
- Many German immigrants moved to the area. So, in 1906, Trinity Lutheran church was built for them.
- In 1912, St. Boniface Church was formed for the Catholic community.
Becoming a Village
Lime Ridge officially became a village in 1913. By 1922, about 200 people lived there. That year, the village also got electricity.
However, the Great Depression and World War II made things tough. The bank and hotel closed down. Other businesses also shut their doors. Today, many people who live in Lime Ridge work in other towns nearby.
