A Look Back: Limestone Cove's History

Limestone Cove was the site of a very sad event during the American Civil War. This war happened in the United States from 1861 to 1865. In November 1863, a group of soldiers from the Confederate side, led by Colonel William A. Witcher, rode to a place called the Bell Farm.

At the Bell Farm, nine young men who were planning to join the Union army were killed. The soldiers also burned down the Bell farmhouse. This event is a reminder of the difficult times people faced during the Civil War.
