History of Lincoln

Lincoln became its own separate place in 1899. This happened when local families built a school there. They felt it was too far for their children to travel to school in Iona. The community was first called Centerville.

In 1903, a company called the Utah Sugar Company bought land in Lincoln. They built a factory there. Heber C. Austin was the person who built this factory. He also built many houses for the factory workers and planted many trees around the area.

In 1904, a local church group, a Latter-day Saint branch, was started in Lincoln. It was part of the Iona Ward (a larger church area). By 1905, this branch became its own separate ward, and Heber C. Austin became its bishop.

In 1930, about 500 people lived in Lincoln. Most of them were Latter-day Saints. The population stayed around 500 for many years. However, by 2010, the area around Idaho Falls grew a lot. This growth caused Lincoln's population to increase significantly.
