Early Life and Family

Lincoln Verduga Loor was born in Chone, Ecuador. He was the sixth of ten children. His father, Ramón Verduga Cornejo, was a hero of the liberal revolution. He also served as the mayor of Chone. Lincoln's mother was Lastenia Loor Montesdeoca. The Verduga family was well-known for their work. Many family members became journalists, lawmakers, and government ministers.

Starting His Public Career

Lincoln went to primary school at Juan Montalvo in Chone. He then attended Pedro Carbo College for high school. Later, he studied Graphic Arts in Quito. This included learning how to set type and make photo engravings.

He started working for the public at a young age. When he was just 17, he helped oversee the building of the Chone-Quito road. He worked with Engineer Isaac Solórzano on this project.

Lincoln held several important public jobs. He was the director of the CRM seven times. In 1966, he became the Director of the Civil Registry of Portoviejo. He also served as the Secretary of the Interior for Manabí province.

A Voice for Journalism

In 1966, Lincoln made a big mark in journalism. He and his brother Franklin started a newspaper called "El Popular." It was later renamed "El Clarín."

Through "El Clarín," they strongly opposed the policies of former President José María Velasco Ibarra. They spoke out against his populist and anti-democratic actions. Because of their strong opposition, the newspaper's offices were attacked. This stopped "El Clarín" from publishing more issues.

However, this did not end Lincoln's journalism career. In 1967, he became a Senator for the Ecuadorian press. As a Senator, he worked to create new laws and change the constitution.

Helping Education in Manabí

Lincoln also played a key role in education. He, along with his brothers Wilson and Franklin, helped create the Lay University Eloy Alfaro of Manabí. This was done with the help of Medardo Mora.

He also worked with Dr. Ruben Dario Morales. They helped expand the Lay University Vicente Rocafuerte in Portoviejo. This university later became the San Gregorio University of Portoviejo.

Later Life and Legacy

In his later years, Lincoln married Virginia Lara Murillo. He worked as the Head of Placements at the Ministry of Labour. He retired from this job in 1991. This was his last public position.

Lincoln passed away on January 15, 2009. He had been ill for a long time. He left behind a lasting impact on journalism in Ecuador, especially in the Manabí region.
