Music Career Highlights
HIM: A Journey in Rock Music
HIM was first formed in 1991 by Ville Valo and bassist Mikko "Mige" Paananen. The band was originally called His Infernal Majesty. They broke up in 1993 but reformed in 1995 with Valo and Lindström. Mige later rejoined, along with keyboardist Antto Melasniemi and drummer Juhana "Pätkä" Rantala.
The band, now called HIM, released their first album, Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666, in 1997. In 2000, with new members Gas Lipstick on drums and Juska Salminen on keyboards, HIM released Razorblade Romance. This album reached number 1 in Finland, Austria, and Germany. Their first single from the album, "Join Me in Death", also hit number one in Finland and Germany. It later went platinum in Finland and gold in Germany and Austria.
After Janne "Burton" Puurtinen joined on keyboards, HIM released Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights in 2001 and Love Metal in 2003. Both albums reached the top ten in several countries. They were also the band's first albums to chart in the United Kingdom and the United States.
HIM moved to the US and released Dark Light in 2005. This became their most successful album. It went gold in Germany, the UK, and the US, and platinum in Finland. In 2007, HIM released Venus Doom. This album went gold in Finland and Germany. It also gave the band their highest US chart position at number 12.
After their 2010 album Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, HIM took a break. This was because drummer Gas Lipstick had a hand injury. After eight months, the band got back together. Musical Gear
Linde Lindström has mostly used Gibson SG guitars throughout his career. He currently uses one SG when playing live. This guitar has a Gibson 500t pickup in the bridge position. Linde has also used Fender Telecasters, an ESP Baritone, and a Gretsch Country Gentleman in the studio. He has also used a Gibson Flying V and a Gibson EDS-1275. These can be seen in HIM's music videos for "Right Here in My Arms" and "In Joy and Sorrow".
Linde uses two Laney amp heads. He also uses one Peavey 5150 amp for his main lead guitar sound. One of the Laney amps has an Electro-Harmonix Octave Multiplexer. The other Laney amp uses a Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Fuzz. The sound from the amps is sent through a Voodoo Labs Amp Selector. Linde uses a Dunlop 105Q Bass Wah pedal.
