Lindsey White (born in 1980) is a talented American artist. She creates many different kinds of art, including photography, videos, sculptures, and even books. Her art is known for being fun and a bit like a puzzle, often making you think and smile. Lindsey White explores ideas from stand-up comedy and magic in her work. She uses photos and sculptures to look at how people perform, create illusions, and how different roles are shown in these fields.
Early Life and Education
Lindsey White was born in 1980 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She studied art at two different colleges. First, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon. Later, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, California.
Lindsey White's Art Projects
Lindsey White's art often uses video, photography, and sculpture. She likes to create unexpected and impossible scenes, much like a good joke or a magic trick. Her work often mixes funny, cartoon-like moments with everyday life. It's like she's telling a joke through her art!
She has shown her art in many places, including:
- The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)
- The Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco
- Museum Bärengasse in Switzerland
- The Bolinas Art Museum in California
- The San Francisco International Airport Museum
- ACME. in Los Angeles, California
- The San Francisco Arts Commission
In 2017, Lindsey White received the SECA Art Award, which is a special honor for artists.
Creative Collaborations
Lindsey White is also part of a creative group called Will Brown. She works with two other artists, David Kasprzak and Jordan Stein, in this project. Will Brown likes to explore new ways of showing art and often looks for interesting or forgotten stories from art history.
Their projects are known for being smart, a bit weird, and often very funny. For example, they once turned a gallery space into a fancy Russian apartment, inspired by a true story about a famous painter's burial site.
Will Brown has worked with several art institutions, including:
- The Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts
- Kadist Foundation
- The Ulrich Museum of Art
- di Rosa
- Headlands Center of the Arts
In 2015, Will Brown had a special exhibition at the Berkeley Museum of Art/Pacific Film Archive. They also received a grant in collaboration with the San Francisco Art Institute in 2015.
Teaching Art
Lindsey White shares her knowledge and passion for art with others. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. This means she teaches students how to create amazing photographs and helps them develop their own artistic skills.
