His Education and Training
Lionel Guérin studied to become an aerospace engineer at a school called École nationale supérieure de mécanique et d'aérotechnique. This means he learned how to design and build aircraft. He also trained to be an airline pilot at École nationale de l'aviation civile, which is a special school for pilots.
His Career in Business
After finishing his engineering studies, Lionel Guérin started working as a technical director at a company called Europe Aéro Service. His job there was to manage the maintenance of aircraft fleets.
Later, after his pilot training, he became an airline pilot for several airlines, including Uni Air, Air Inter, and Air France. At Air France, which is a major French airline, he became a Captain flying the Airbus A320. He also worked as a flight instructor, teaching other pilots, and was in charge of making sure flight operations met all the rules.
Lionel Guérin then decided to start his own airline, a regional airline called Airlinair. Since February 2007, he has also been the President of Transavia France, another airline.
In September 2011, there was talk that he might become the head of Air France. However, another person, Alexandre de Juniac, was chosen for that role instead.
His Political Activities
Since 2003, Lionel Guérin has been the President of the Fédération nationale de l'aviation marchande and the Chambre syndicale du transport aérien. These are groups that represent and support the commercial aviation industry in France. He is also a member of the board of directors for the Conseil supérieur de l'aviation marchande, which helps guide the aviation industry.
From 2006 to 2011, he served as an adviser at the Banque de France in a city called Creteil.
