Lipovitan (リポビタン, Ripobitan) is a popular energy drink. In some English-speaking countries, it's known as Libogen or Livita. This drink is made by Taisho Pharmaceutical Co. and its partner Osotspa.

Lipovitan is very common in Asia. You can usually buy it in small, brown, see-through bottles that hold 100 milliliters. The drink itself has a bright yellow color. Many people drink Lipovitan to help them feel less tired, both physically and mentally.

What's Inside Lipovitan?

The main ingredient in Lipovitan drinks is something called taurine. Taurine is an amino acid, which is like a building block for your body. It's often found in energy drinks.

Different Lipovitan Drinks

There are different versions of Lipovitan with various ingredients:

  • Lipovitan D has 1000 mg of taurine. It also contains 20 mg of nicotinic acid extract (which is vitamin B3). Plus, it has 5 mg each of vitamin B1, B2, and B6. These B vitamins help your body turn food into energy. This version also includes 50 mg of caffeine, which can make you feel more awake.
  • Lipovitan D Super is even stronger. It has 2000 mg of taurine and 300 mg of arginine. Arginine is another type of amino acid.
  • MAXIO contains a large amount of taurine, 3000 mg!

Important Safety Tip

The labels on all Lipovitan products have a warning. They say you should not drink more than one 100 ml bottle per day.

You can find Lipovitan products in Japan. They are also sold in stores in other countries that carry Asian products.

Lipovitan's History

Lipovitan has been around for a long time! It was first released in 1962. This means it came out 14 years before Krating Daeng, which is the drink that later inspired Red Bull.
