Camp Lippitt was a temporary military camp and small settlement located in Humboldt County, California. It was set up during the American Civil War in 1862 and was active for about two months. This camp was near another settlement called Bucksport.

What Was Camp Lippitt?

Camp Lippitt was a military post that wasn't built from scratch. Instead, it used buildings that were rented in Bucksport. It was named after Colonel Francis J. Lippitt, who was a leader in the 2nd California Infantry.

Why Was Camp Lippitt Created?

The main reason Camp Lippitt was established was to help with some problems at a nearby military base called Fort Humboldt. The soldiers at Camp Lippitt were from Company F of the 2nd Regiment California Volunteer Infantry. They were stationed there to support the military efforts in the area during the Civil War.
