Lisa Suzanne Blount (born July 1, 1957 – died October 27, 2010) was a talented American actress and a producer who won an Academy Award. She was known for her roles in movies and TV shows, and later for her work behind the scenes.
Early Life and Education
Lisa Blount was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She grew up in Jacksonville, Arkansas. After finishing high school in Jacksonville, she studied theater at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Valdosta State University in Georgia.
In 1986, Lisa went back to college at San Francisco State University (SFSU). There, she earned her degree in Theater Arts. She also joined SFSU's Speech and Debate Team. In 1987, she played the main female role in a popular musical called Hair.
Acting Career Highlights
Lisa Blount became well-known for her acting. She was nominated for a Golden Globe award for her role in the movie An Officer and a Gentleman. She also appeared in the horror film Prince of Darkness in 1987.
Another memorable role was Bobbi Stakowski in the TV series Profit. She also appeared in an episode of the popular TV show Moonlighting in 1986.
Becoming a Producer
Later in her career, Lisa Blount started working as a producer. With her husband, Ray McKinnon, she won an Academy Award in 2001. They won for their short film called The Accountant. Lisa also helped with the costumes for that film.
She also produced and acted in the movie Chrystal, which starred Billy Bob Thornton. For her role in Chrystal, Lisa won the Best Actress Award at the Stockholm Film Festival.
Her Passing
Lisa Blount passed away at her home in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 27, 2010. Her mother found her. Officials believed she had passed away a couple of days earlier. There was no suspicion of foul play.
Lisa's mother shared that Lisa had a health condition called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). This condition means the body has low levels of platelets, which are important for blood clotting. This can lead to easy bleeding and bruising. Her mother believed this condition might have contributed to her passing.
